  • Fire Protection Systems Estimator & Lead Apprenticeship Instructor

    Position Summary:


    We are on the lookout for a versatile professional to undertake the dual role of Fire Protection Systems Estimator and Lead Apprenticeship Instructor. This unique position combines the technical expertise of estimating with the mentorship and development of the next generation of fire protection specialists. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of fire protection systems, excellent analytical skills for accurate estimations, and a passion for teaching and developing apprentices. 


    Key Responsibilities:


    Estimator Duties:


    • Analyze project drawings and specifications to prepare detailed cost estimates for fire protection systems.
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to gather all necessary information for accurate bidding.
    • Conduct site visits and meetings with clients as needed to gather information and discuss project requirements.
    • Engage with vendors and subcontractors for quotations, ensuring competitive and comprehensive estimates.
    • Stay abreast of industry standards, new technologies, and regulatory requirements affecting fire protection.
    • Development proposals, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and competitiveness.
    • Participate in project handover meetings, providing detailed breakdowns of estimates to project teams.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives in the estimation process and contribute to the development of best practices

    Lead Apprenticeship Instructor Duties:


    • Using AFSA curriculum, deliver a comprehensive apprenticeship program for new entrants into the fire protection industry.
    • Provide hands-on instruction and mentorship on the installation, maintenance, and repair of various fire protection systems.
    • Develop curriculum that includes the latest in fire protection technology, codes, and safety practices.
    • Evaluate apprentice progress, providing feedback and adjustments to the program as needed.
    • Foster a learning environment that encourages questions, innovation, and excellence.

    Qualifications:


    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, with a strong background in fire protection systems.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection system estimation, with a proven track record of successful project bids.
    • Certified in relevant fire protection systems technologies and standards (e.g., NFPA or NICET certifications).
    • Experience in teaching or training, with excellent communication and instructional skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and adapt to changing priorities.
    • Strong leadership qualities and a commitment to developing new talent in the fire protection industry.
    • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite

  • Alarm/Utility Technician

    Position Summary:


    We are seeking a multi-skilled professional to fill the pivotal role of Lead Alarm & Utility Fire Systems Technician. The primary role is for an alarm technician, with the utility component being to assist other departments on an as-needed basis.  This position requires a blend of technical proficiency in fire alarm systems, water-based fire protection systems, kitchen hood systems, clean agent, and paint booth systems. Proficiency is required with installation, inspection, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of all systems. Requires mentorship and development of apprentices. The ideal candidate will poses the NICET certifications in all facets of the position.


    Key Responsibilities:


    Alarm Technician Duties:


    Install, inspect, test, and maintain fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with national standards and local authorities.


    Perform detailed assessments and diagnostics and troubleshooting on existing systems to identify and resolve potential issues.


    Coordinate with design, service, and contract teams for the seamless execution of alarm system installations, repairs, and upgrades.

    Provide expert guidance on the selection and application of fire alarm components and systems.


    Conduct comprehensive training sessions for apprentices and junior technicians on alarm system technologies and troubleshooting techniques.


    Utility Technician Duties:


    As needed, conduct installation, service, repair, inspection, testing, and maintenance of wet, dry, preaction, foam, deluge, and water-based fire sprinkler systems. Work scope includes same duties for commercial and residential kitchen hood fire protection, clean agent systems, large wet and dry chemical fire protection systems, paint booth fire protection and vehicle fire suppression systems. 


    Qualifications:


    Minimum of 7 years of experience in various fire protection systems identified in the duties above.  NICET II in Alarm Installation, NICET II in Special Hazards, NICET II Water Based ITM and NICET II Alarm ITM required, with a willingness to pursue further NICET certifications. Strong focus on technical leadership and team development.


    Demonstrated ability in teaching or training, coupled with excellent communication and mentoring skills.


    Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools for servicing, troubleshooting, and installing various fire protection systems. 


    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter

    Are you a serious, direct and analytical person comfortable taking the lead? Do you consider yourself adept at working independently and do you prefer roles that benefit from the existence of a process to drive strong outcomes? Would people describe you as serious and highly reliable? Are you known for your ability to execute with a high degree of expediency and accuracy? 


    Primary Purpose: Installation, fabrication, Inspection, Testing and Maintaining automatic fire protection systems. Responsible for lifting, transporting, stocking, cutting, threading, grooving, assembling, installing, hanging pipe, fittings, and devices for Automatic Fire Protection Systems. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, maintenance, and inspections systems. This work requires the physical ability to perform these tasks. 


    Journeyman Fire Sprinkler Fitter Responsibilities, to include, but not limited to the following: 


    • Your truck. Company truck is required to be straightened and restocked at the end of each day or at the end of each job. Unattended vehicles shall have the keys removed, brakes set, windows rolled up and both doors and bins locked. 
    • The maintenance of your truck. Trucks should be kept full of gas and oil, and routine maintenance such as oil changes should be completed as required. This task may be delegated to your apprentice/helper, but you are responsible for completion. Maintenance records should be provided to administration representative tasked with this record keeping. 
    • All tools and equipment. Tools lost or needing replacement due to abuse from anger or misuse will be replaced at your expense. 
    • Preparing your material list and necessary arrangements for the completion of your scheduled work. 
    • Supervising and training of apprentices and laborers assigned to work with you. 
    • Your timecard and paperwork. This includes the review of your subordinate’s timecard and paperwork.

    Requirements: 


    • Valid Journeyman’s license (if applicable). 
    • Valid Driver’s license in good standing and shall remain in good standing throughout duration of employment. Job applicants may be screened for driving record. If applicant cannot meet the MVR Standards, they may not be eligible for hire. (See Fleet Safety Program, Section N). 
    • Pass a pre-employment drug test. 
    • Pass a background check. 
    • Read and write English. 
    • Tools and clothing as outlined on the enclosed list. 
    • Knowledge of the use and care of all applicable equipment. 
    • Lift 80 lbs. for extended periods of time. 
    • Bend, climb and crawl for extended periods of time. 
    • Work at all heights using safety equipment. 
    • Perform work in all seasonal environments from the extreme summer heat to the extreme winter cold.
    • Performance of work may include overtime and night hours. On-call rotation is required. 
    • Travel to jobsites may require extended days, weeks or months away from home.
    • Perform with quality workmanship in a timely manner. 
    • Full-time employment requires 40 hours per week as work permits. 

    Required Skills: Field worker must be able to problem solve, lift tools and pipe and work overhead while lifting and using ladders. 


    Work Environment: Required to perform safely with efficiently in work inside and outside in all weather conditions and temperatures in construction zones and existing buildings.
